About Kathy

I became a Massage Therapist in Hawaii in 1978, 3 years after my daughter was born. At that time there were only 5 massage schools in the country. As my practice grew, it became clearer and clearer to me that I had no idea what I was doing. I left for San Diego and trained at the Institute of Psycho Structural Balancing (IPSB). The training was priceless! As I sat in the classroom, it became clear to me that Hawaii needed its own massage school. I quickly started a branch of IPSB in Honolulu. Eventually, named the Honolulu School of Massage, “The School” as we called it took off. For over a decade we educated the majority of Massage Therapists in Hawaii. Today there are hundreds of massage schools and tens of thousands of massage therapists and practitioners in the country. I now teach in the massage therapy program at Remington College. It is a program within a larger school. Massage Therapy is here to stay! I am humbled and proud to have been a part of helping the power of touch become more readily available to so many people. In 1999, I turned my attention to Birth and became a certified doula through DONA International. Since then, I have attended more than 60 births. It was clear we needed more doulas in Hawaii so I jumped at the opportunity. In 2005 I became a Certified Labor Doula Trainer with Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Assoc. (CAPPA). I now offer CAPPA Labor Doula Training multiples times a year. I see the seeds of change afoot in the doula movement. Women and families need the wisdom and power gained through birth. I am thrilled that Nekole is doing this work with Embodied Birth and honored to join her team. I look forward to you joining us as we transform the birthing experience for women and their families.
